Target Discovery has 14 issued or allowed US Patents covering its unique platforms for protein isoform biomarker discovery, validation, and clinical application. All of these technologies are more broadly applicable for discovery biology and life sciences research. Two of these technologies have won industry recognition as seminal breakthroughs in their fields.
Isoform Discovery and Validation
TDI’s Mass Defect technology, which is core to our protein isoform biomarker discovery and validation platform, was recognized by Frost & Sullivan as one of the most promising new biomarker technologies in 2004. We implement the mass defect technology in a hypothesis-driven proteomics platform (IDBEST™) that is specifically designed for immunoaffinity enrichment or mechanistic baiting of low abundance biomarkers with subsequent mass spectrometric identification, high-precision quantification, and isoform characterization in a fast and efficient format. A particularly valuable feature is that the IDBEST™ technology is non-destructive of precious clinical samples, allowing repeat interrogations for additional biomarkers.
TDI's dynamic coatings for capillary electrophoresis and microfluidics were the essential breakthrough needed to allow quantitative and reproducible protein isoform separations suitable for clinical diagnostic applications. Our proprietary dynamics coatings were picked as one of the top 5 most exciting new products at Pittcon (the world’s largest analytical chemistry conference and exposition). These coatings block protein binding and prevent loss of resolution due to intra-capillary variations or inappropriate levels of electroosmotic force (EOF).
TDI has developed several other technologies that complement those employed in our core Isonostics™ business (above). These include stable isotope mass spectrometric techniques for glycan analysis (an important isoform variation), a rapid and unambiguous protein identification method (utilizing the mass defect technology), and several other technologies designed to improve our ability to resolve and measure protein isoform biomarkers by mass spectrometry and capillary electrophoresis.
